Creating a Gallery Wall

Creating a gallery wall is a great way to add personality and interest to any room in your home. Here are some steps to follow to create a gallery wall.

Choose a Location

Decide on the wall where you want to create your gallery. Consider the room, the available space, and the type of art you want to display. Our favorite locations are living rooms, dining rooms and staircases.

Gather your Art

Collect the pieces of art you want to display. This could include paintings, prints, photographs, or even decorative objects like mirrors or sculptures. Choose pieces that have a similar theme, color scheme, or style to create a cohesive look.

Create a Layout

Lay out your pieces of art on the floor and experiment with different arrangements until you find a layout that you like. Consider the spacing between each piece and the overall balance of the composition.

Optional - If you have a very large wall, or if you want to be very precise, you can create templates. Trace each piece of art onto paper and cut out the shapes. Use these templates to plan the exact layout on your wall.

Hang your Art

Start by hanging the largest piece of art first, using a level to ensure that it's straight. Then hang the rest of the pieces, working from the center outwards and using your templates (or instinct!) to guide you.

Once you have all your art hung up, step back and take a look at the overall composition. If there are any gaps or areas that feel unbalanced, consider adding additional pieces or decorative objects.

Your gallery wall is now complete! Take some time to enjoy your new art display and consider changing it up from time to time to keep things fresh. The Tidy Magpie’s REFINE service can help you achieve this look!
